About Us

Quality Day Care since February 2010

Busy Bees Daycare Centre is an English, Christian, preschool that provides a rich learning environment in which children can explore, interact and learn through the many aspects of their PLAY. It is a constantly evolving environment where we routinely change activities and materials available, adapting to the children’s social, emotional and cognitive needs and abilities as they develop and grow.

Through PLAY, we encourage the children to use their minds, their bodies and their emerging expressive language to navigate the day to day challenges of growing and learning. While this kind of learning is important, at Busy Bees we believe there is much more. Here we strive to provide a loving, stimulating place where children learn to solve problems and are coached to use their emerging language to become great friends and great people. We model and teach kindness, sharing, generosity and thoughtfulness.

At Busy Bees we have created a safe and loving environment, especially designed and equipped to enrich those all-important years. All our staff are committed to creating a loving, happy and stimulating environment which responds to the needs of enthusiastic and inquisitive individuals. We welcome parents comments and consult on a regular basis about how the nursery is run and the service we offer. Your child’s Key Person and the nursery Manager are always willing to meet with you and discuss your child’s progress or answer any concerns you may have.

Our Philosophy

With a Mission

Busy Bees Day Care believes that all children are naturally eager to learn, and our primary mission is to nurture that innate curiosity as it develops into a lifelong love of learning. While the possession of knowledge is an expected goal for toddlers and young children, at Busy Bees we accomplish this through PLAY. We continually strive to nurture our Bees to freely become their wonderful little selves, learn and grow through play in a loving, caring place. Thus our Bees are fully prepared to meet the expectations set before them when they leave Busy Bees and move on to pre-school and beyond.

  • Create a purpose for learning and enjoy every moment.
  • Allow children to be thinkers, innovators and problem solvers.
  • Provide quality care within a safe and stress free environment.
  • Create a dynamic, caring, teaching & learning environment that values every child

Our Methodology is based on the foundation that children enjoy learning through PLAY, hands on activities and interaction with others.

Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool

The Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool learning program promotes social and emotional growth, skills of independence, cultural diversity, problem solving and most importantly a love of learning. Delivered in a safe and loving atmosphere, our materials and lessons are based on developmentally appropriate needs of the children in our care.

As most of our children move on to International Schools after their time here, our four classes are grouped in the age groups required by those schools, and we begin the school year in September as they do.

  • Bumble Bees – children who are four years of age and turn five between 1 September and 30 August.
  • Honey Bees – children who are three years of age and turn four between 1 September and 30 August.
  • Baby Bees – children who are two years of age and turn three between 1 September and 30 August.

We hope that all parents will be involved as partners, in what we hope will develop into a lifelong love of learning and being for our children.

Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool

  • Extended Half day Bees (mornings only with lunch): 8am to 2pm

Safety of all children comes first at Busy Bees and children can only leave the premises with an authorized person who is in possession of an official Busy Bees Gate Pass. This fee, if not paid at the time, will be added to your invoice for the following month.

Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool

Although we remain a daycare and preschool – committed to creativity and learning through play, we also introduce some more formal lessons, in order to prepare our Busy Bees thoroughly for ‘Big School’.

Jollyphonics: This is a system of introducing letter sounds to children as the foundation for reading and writing, as required by the British National Curriculum for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and will be taught in Honey Bees and Bumble Bees classes. If you would like more information about teaching literacy with Jollyphonics, click here.

Oxford Reading Tree: Introduced in the Bumble Bees Class, this is one of the most popular reading schemes in Britain and many other countries. It provides a progressive reading structure for children and follows the adventures of the Robinson family (Mom, Dad, Kipper, Biff and Chip and their friends Wilf and Wilma). The books develop sight word recognition as well as phonetic decoding of unknown words. The stories are modern and fun, the illustrations are lively and colourful and children love to read them. Children will do this reading at school, so this will prepare the children to enter First Grade with confidence.

Food and nutrition are at the core of a child’s growth, helping to build immunity and maximise brain development. Lunch and an afternoon snack are provided daily. We provide a wholesome, balanced diet and teach the children about healthy eating, which will benefit them not only now but also later in life. Our meals and snacks contain a wide variety of foods from every food group. Our chef works to a monthly menu and if you would like a copy of the menu please do ask a staff member.

We do not serve juice at Busy Bees but we serve water as a beverage and children are encouraged to drink throughout the day. Dietary restrictions are never a problem and we are more than happy to work with you around this if need be.

Please make sure that all snacks brought in from home are healthy. This may be fruit, a sandwich or a delicious smoothie. Except on special occasions, such as birthdays and holidays, we encourage Parents not to send your child in with packets of sweets, chocolate or cake, and especially not soda.

Swimming with Mr Ferrick at Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool

Swimming: There are optional swimming lessons available at Busy Bees Daycare and Preschool on Wednesday and Friday mornings with Mr Ferick. Swimming lessons will stop during the months of June, July & August because of the cold season, and resume in September. Please speak to our staff to find out more about this.

Ferick Kalengela has been a Swim Instructor for 28 years, and has taught in Tanzania, South Africa, and Zambia. He has received training in Hungary, Australia and the America Swim Coaches Association(A.S.A.). Ferick works with different schools in the city and is the founder and an instructor at The Dar Swim Club, Tanzania Swim Club, Tanzania Swimming Coaches Association. He also coaches the National Swim Team for Tanzania.

The following is a list of items we request Parents supply on a daily basis:

  • Diapers and baby wipes (as necessary)
  • Extra clothes: two sets labelled with your child’s name
  • Sunscreen

Parents are to ensure all school clothing, inclusive of shoes, hats, lunchboxes, and juice bottles are labelled with your child’s name as the school will not take responsibility for any personal belongings which are lost.
